January 2014- Edgar Allan Poe and Sherlock Holmes Birthdays Book Display

Hello,

Edgar Allan Poe and Sherlock Holmes share January birthdays.

This year there was a book display that showed off the literary impact that Poe and Holmes has on young adult novels.  In addition, birthday cards were made to celebrate these two iconic literary figures.

I was able to find some fun pieces of clip art and humorous images of Poe and Holmes in birthday hats, which were used for the book display sign and the birthday cards.

December 2013 Display- Teen Winter Zone

Hello,

December is a wonderful time of the year.  Winter has arrived and the month is filled with holidays that allow people to spend time with friends and family.  In celebration of these things the Teen Zone was transformed into the Winter Zone.

Decorations

To create the Winter Zone I designed several displays that combined nature and literature.  Examples include: trees made out of pine cones, trees made from books, snowmen, and floral displays using pine cones and tree branches.  In addition, I also had a deer put on display and snow covering all the shelves.

I found some wonderful wrapping paper that I used to incorporate the nature theme of the Winter Zone to the ends of the shelves as well.  The wrapping paper was covered in deers, trees, and holly branches.  Finally, I used burlap ribbon and poinsettias to make the shelves look like presents.

Hello,

The release of the most recent "Hunger Games" and "Thor" movie was the inspiration for the Teen Zone display in November.

Decorations

Some decorations that incorporated the "Hunger Games" theme in the Teen Zone included: a cornucopia with arrows, a reaping bowl, silver parachutes, and of course the mockingjay spreading its wings.

I was able to find the logos for the twelve districts of Panem and, the final touch, a cutout of Katniss Everdeen, which I used to decorate the end of the stacks.

To incorporate "Thor" themed decorations into the Young Adult Graphic Novel collection I was able to reuse a raven statue for the Halloween display.  I also made Thor's Hammer using duct tape and construction paper.

A fun touch was creating a READ poster from the "Asgardian Library Association" with Thor in the background.
